THE POSITION
The Program Coordinator for 4th “R” is responsible for overseeing a program that provides care and enrichment for children ages 5 to 12 outside of regular school hours, including before and after school, during holidays, and over the summer. This position involves planning and managing age-appropriate activities, supervising and training staff, ensuring the program complies with state licensing and safety regulations, and maintaining effective communication with families. This position also handles administrative tasks such as accounting, enrollment, and maintaining necessary records. The Program Coordinators primary goal is to create a safe, supportive, and engaging environment that fosters children’s social, emotional, and academic growth.
IDEAL CANDIDATE STATEMENT
The ideal candidate will be a dedicated and experienced leader with a strong background in school-age education. The ideal candidate will possess excellent organizational and communication skills, as well as the ability to manage and mentor staff effectively. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a deep understanding of child development, licensing regulations, and best practices in out-of-school-time programming. They will be passionate about creating a safe, inclusive, and enriching environment that supports children’s growth and learning. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have strong administrative skills, including budgeting, scheduling, and maintaining program compliance, while building positive relationships with families, staff, and the broader community.
To coordinate and direct recreation, educational enrichment, child care, special events, or other special community programs and activities in a facility or site, or to coordinate and direct a City-wide program or service in a special programming area.

Two years of leadership experience in a recreational, educational, youth development, child care, special events, or community service setting, which included responsibilities such as organizing and providing general guidance over the activities of children, teenagers, and adults.
Successful completion of college-level courses with major course work in recreation, education, child development, or a closely related field may substitute for the experience requirement on a year-for-year basis. Completion of thirty (30) semester units is equivalent to one year of experience.
PROOF OF EDUCATION
Should education be used to qualify for this position, then proof of education such as, but not limited to, university/college transcripts and degrees should be submitted with your application and will be required at the time of appointment. Unofficial documents and/or copies are acceptable.
An applicant with a college degree obtained outside the United States must have education records evaluated by a credentials evaluation service. Evaluation of education records will be due at time of appointment.
Special Qualifications
Driver License
Possession of a valid California Class C Driver License at the time of appointment. Loss of the Class C License is cause for discipline. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a physical disability will be considered for accommodation on a case-by-case basis.
For child-care and elder-care positions, candidates must meet qualifications in accordance with current laws and regulations.

Work Conditions

Environmental Conditions
Work may be performed indoors or outdoors with exposure to heat, often over 100 degrees, sun, noise, dust, and pollens.
PROBATIONARY PERIOD
Employees must complete twelve (12) months of probation at a satisfactory performance level prior to gaining permanent status.
