General Manager – Tooling & Injection Molding (Medical Device)
Buffalo Grove, IL (Relocation Assistance Available)
Up to $230,000 base + 40% bonus
Must have: A strong injection molding background with direct oversight of in-house tool and mold design/build. Candidates without this experience will not be considered.
We are seeking a General Manager – Tooling to lead a medical device manufacturing operation that is scaling from 2 million to 25 million units annually. This is a fully equipped environment that now needs a visionary leader to guide operations, expand production capacity, and establish a long-term strategy for growth.
What you’ll do
- Provide strategic leadership for tooling operations, overseeing new tool/mold development, production maintenance, and process improvements.
- Manage the full manufacturing cycle: from prototype and complex mold builds to mass production.
- Direct a 100-person team including Project Managers, Engineers, Machinists, Mold Techs, Setup/Process Techs, and support staff.
- Drive business development initiatives to expand market share and support revenue growth.
- Oversee P&L performance, operational excellence, and continuous improvement initiatives across all functions.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Procurement, Quality, Warehousing, HR, and Finance.
What we’re looking for
- Must have: Strong injection molding background, including oversight of in-house tool/mold design and build.
- Preferred: Medical device industry experience (automotive backgrounds will not be considered).
- 10+ years of senior leadership experience in operations/manufacturing, with proven success scaling high-volume production.
- Experience supporting business development and customer programs from concept through delivery (NPI preferred).
- Strong P&L and financial management skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field required; MBA preferred.
