Description
About Us: The Lundquist Institute for Biomedical Innovation at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center is an independent, non-profit biomedical research organization located in Torrance, California. In dozens of laboratories throughout the campus, researchers are working to unravel the mysteries of heart and kidney disease, cardiac complications in newborns, chronic lung disease, skin cancer, sickle cell disease, disorders of the autoimmune system, and much more. Many of these projects are collaborative in nature, involving experts from different areas of specialization. Our discoveries have prevented blindness in newborns, enabled premature infants with fragile lungs to breathe and allowed children with rare, often fatal diseases to grow up healthy and strong.
Requirements: – Bachelor of Science in Nursing – Active and valid registered nurse license in the state of California – Valid California driver’s license – RN with at least 2 years of pediatric, maternal/child health, or neonatal experience – Preferred qualifications: Master’s Degree, Public Health Nurse, Bilingual English/Spanish
Responsibilities: – This is a hybrid remote public health position with The Lundquist Institute for Biomedical Innovation at Harbor-UCLA (TLI). In this role, you will support families and healthcare providers by providing case management for newborns who require follow-up after the state-mandated newborn screening blood test. TLI contracts with the California Department of Public Health to ensure that infants in our designated service area receive timely and appropriate care. – Provide case management for infants with positive or inadequate newborn screening results, coordinating referrals to physician offices, clinics, CCS Special Care Centers, or CCS-paneled specialists within the assigned region. – Ensure timely follow-up on confirmatory testing for infants with actionable screening results through phone contact with physicians, hospital staff, and parents. – Track and monitor verifications, inadequate screens, and early screens to support accurate reporting and follow-up. – Help identify and locate infants who were not screened at birth and coordinate collection of the newborn screening test. – Conduct in-service training sessions and site visits with assigned facilities and midwives to support compliance and best practices. – Contribute to the development and implementation of quality assurance and improvement processes for perinatal facilities and providers, in alignment with state regulations. – Assist in creating and reviewing newborn screening educational materials for providers, facilities, and families. – Perform other duties as assigned.
Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 5:00 pm with some on-call coverage on weekends and holidays
